Learning Support Programmes
Throughout 2018 I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to be SENCO, Special Education Needs Co Ordinator. This role enabled me to think more and be more involved with the needs and programmes of our students who need additional support in different areas.
I found that we have a significant number of children with learning support needs and was able t work with different agencies and staff to decide on and implement a range of programmes to support these needs.
As the year progressed, we would review our programmes and timetables to determine the best way forward in order to maximise learning, progress and support for students.
One of our students in particular who has high learning and social needs, has had a programme and interventions developed for him and the progress in all areas has been extremely pleasing. We are very lucky to have such a dedicated team and the modelling and inclusion demonstrated by staff, has had a positive impact on all of our children.
We structured one of our teacher aides to work in a one to one situation with him and had support from a Waitaha teacher to develop resources and a programme that has enabled him to become more independent and enjoy learning.
The high expectations and dedication of the key people who work with him have allowed our student to see progress and a level of contentment that has surprised and thrilled us all.
